From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (/ ˈvældənstrɛmz ˌmækroʊˌɡlɒbjələˈniːmiə /; WM) is a type of cancer affecting two types of B cells: lymphoplasmacytoid cells and plasma cells. Both cell types are white blood cells.

Buildup of the protein can lead to problems with bleeding, vision, and the nervous system. WM is sometimes called lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. Targeted therapy for Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia includes monoclonal antibodies. A monoclonal antibody is a type of targeted therapy. It is directed against a specific protein in the cancer cells, and it does not affect cells that do not have that protein. Clonotypic IgM V/D/J sequence analysis in Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia suggests an unusual B-cell origin and an expansion of polyclonal B cells in peripheral blood. Kriangkum, J., Taylor, B.J., Treon, S.P., Mant, M.J., Belch, A.R., Pilarski, L.M. Blood (2004) [ Pubmed ] Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma) is a variant B-cell IgM-producing lymphoma of older dogs.

This review of 20 patients with WMG revealed five with pulmonary involvement. The radiographic abnormalities included one patient with a unilateral pleural effusion, and four patients with multiple asymmetrical nodular infiltrates in both lungs. The concept of Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia has evolved from the original description of a clinical syndrome to its more recent designation as a distinct clinicopathologic entity, that is, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma/Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (LPL/WM), in the World Health Organization (WHO) classification and by the participants of consensus meetings on WM. When was Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia discovered? What is the story of this discovery? Was it coincidence or not? Previous. 0 answers.

Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM) is very distinct from other indolent lymphoma subtypes: by definition it is accompanied by a monoclonal IgM gammopathy, it presents always with bone marrow infiltration and often with clinical symptoms such as neuropathy or hyperviscosity

Disease. Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) is a malignant lymphoplasmo-proliferative disorder which overproduces IgM, a monoclonal pentameric immunoglobulin.

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is a low-grade B-cell clonal disorder characterized by lymphoplasmacytic bone marrow involvement associated with monoclonal immunoglobulin M. Although WM remains to be an incurable disease with a heterogeneous clinical course, the recent discovery of mutations in the MYD88 and CXCR4 genes further enhanced our understanding of its pathogenesis.

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinem Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) is a cancer of blood cells. It is classified as a lymphoma because it arises from mature B-lymphocytes (aka, “B-cells”). These cells grow uncontrollably primarily in the bone marrow, but also in the lymph nodes, liver and spleen in some … Get Support.

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia. A type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) is when the cancer cells in the lymphocytes—immune system cells that help the body fight disease—start to produce large amounts of an abnormal protein call macroglobulin. While NHL is considered a cancer of the lymphocytes, the presence

This cancer causes the bone marrow to make an abnormally high amount of irregular white blood cells, which end up crowding the circulatory system and the healthy blood cells throughout it. So, Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia is a plasma cell dyscrasia, or dysfunction of plasma cells in which there is a overproduction of the immunoglobulin IGM and this results in thickening of the blood in a condition known as hyperviscosity syndrome, which is demonstrated by increased bleeding, some visual changes, headaches, weakness, and this obvious thickness of the blood. What is Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia?
